The fashion crowd can't get enough of 'em.

Spring may have us eagerly ditching heavy outerwear, but when it's not quite sandal weather, you can always turn to fashion's current favorite shoe: the trusty loafer.

Yes, penny loafers are having a moment again. Prada has been a big proponent of their renaissance, as have Miu Miu and Gucci. The style appeared on a number of Spring 2023 runways, including Boss, Roksanda, Ralph Lauren and Tods. It has also become a mainstay of footwear brands like Stuart Weitzman, Nomasei, Brother Vellies and Charles & Keith, among others.

Seemingly everyone is on the hunt for a good pair. Prada's patent leather loafers cracked the top 10 of Lyst's quarterly ranking of hottest women's products in Q3 2020; it appeared again in the #7 spot in Q1 2022, only on the menswear side. Lyst stopped dividing its hottest products rankings by gender in Q3 of 2022; that quarter, Gucci's 1953 Horsebit Leather Loafer came in at #8.

Despite their ubiquity, penny loafers never seem to end up feeling tired or played out. Plus, from luxury to the high street, there are many variations on the style: from classic black to logo-covered to color-blocked. Hop on the comeback train and shop some of the best current takes on the shoe, below.
