For Spring 2024, Lanvin Is Marking a New Chapter With a Return to Its 1920s Roots

Since Lanvin's former Creative Director (and onetime pupil of Alber Elbaz) Bruno Sialelli stepped down from his post this spring, the future of the French legacy house has remained unclear. Sialelli — who assumed the top design job in 2019 — worked to reestablish the brand for the post-Elbaz age, and now following his departure, Lanvin is seemingly attempting to go back to its 1920s roots — for Spring 2024, at least.

In what the brand describes as a "heartfelt love letter" to its founder, Parisian couturière Jeanne Lanvin, the latest range — which debuted in Paris on Thursday — paid homage to some of the house's earliest codes. (Though Jeanne Lanvin first joined the Syndicat de la Couture in 1909, it wasn't until the early 1920s that her empire began taking hold with expansions in such categories as fragrance, menswear, lingerie and even home.)

Some nods were more literal than others: In the garments themselves, flapper-friendly column silhouettes abounded in tube dresses, skirts and even pants, coming complete with intricate beaded detailing across busts and hems. The styling, featuring mid-bicep-length leather gloves, provided a more contemporary flourish.
