Spotlight shines on Smoky Martin's BBQ

Apr. 30—Smoky Martin's BBQ of Meadville was in the spotlight Monday for a future episode of "America's Best Restaurants," an online food show.

A video crew was at Smoky Martin's location at 1206 Park Ave. in Meadville to talk with owner Ron "Smoky" Martin and staff about the popular barbecue restaurant and catering business.

Martin has owned and operated Smoky Martin's BBQ since 2013. He retired as a driver for Pitt Ohio Express of Pittsburgh after 26 years, then began smoking and barbecuing as a hobby, cooking on weekends for family and friends.

The business began as a mobile food trailer operating two-days a week in Meadville and Cochranton. In 2016, Martin opened his building on Park Avenue.

America's Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company, contacted Martin last fall about doing an episode. The company focuses on local, independently-owned restaurants.

Once the upcoming video shoot is edited into an episode, its premiere date will be announced on Smoky Martin's Facebook page and will be featured on America's Best Restaurants' website at americasbestrestaurants.com/rests/pennsylvania/smoky-martins-bbq.
