Sportsnet open to new format for first intermission after Don Cherry's dismissal

With time not on their side, Sportsnet has yet to decide what to do with the broadcast during the first intermission of “Hockey Night in Canada.”

After the firing of Don Cherry, the sports network is reportedly looking into many possibilities to fill the void left by “Coach’s Corner.”

“We’re taking the time to explore new formats for the first intermission,” Sportsnet communications director Andrew Garas said to The Canadian Press on Friday.

As for the near future, this Saturday’s broadcast will feature the 2019 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees before Monday’s induction ceremony during the first intermission.

After nearly four decades on the air, Coach’s Corner will be no more after Cherry’s controversial anti-immigrant tirade led to his dismissal.

Sportsnet will have an opportunity to feature new talent and modernize the idea of an internal look around the league — if they stay within the same conceptual lane.
