Sports Legend Kobe Bryant Has Died at Age 41

  • Kobe Bryant reportedly passed away this morning in a helicopter crash.

Update, January 26, 2020, at 3:50 pm: TMZ is now reporting that one of Kobe's daughters, Gianna Maria Onore, was also in the helicopter this morning and passed away. She was 13 years old.

The site also reports that the helicopter was on its way to the Mamba Academy for basketball practice when the crash occurred.

Celebrities and athletes have been paying tribute to Kobe on Twitter, and his former NBA team the Los Angeles Lakers paid tribute to the legend, writing:

We can confirm that Kobe Bryant passed away today from the causes of a helicopter accident.

The entire Los Angeles Lakers family wishes to support their family and friends.

RIP KOBE 🙏❤️

Original story, January 26, 2020 at 2:57pm: Sports legend and NBA star Kobe Bryant reportedly died this morning in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, CA.

TMZ reports and Variety confirms that Kobe and at least three other passengers were in his private helicopter at the time of the crash. TMZ shares, "Emergency personnel responded, but nobody on board survived. 5 people are confirmed dead."

The story is developing, but for now the cause of the crash is under investigation, and it's believed that Kobe's wife, Vanessa Bryant, wasn't on board. Kobe and Vanessa have four children together.

Kobe is best known for his astounding basketball career while on the Los Angeles Lakers, during which he won 5 NBA championships and won the NBA's Most Valuable Player in 2008 before retiring in 2016.
