Spider Monkey's First Time Outside After Having His Vision Restored Is a Tear-Jerker

Seeing a beautiful place for the first time can be absolutely mindblowing, but we can only imagine how beautiful and overwhelming it would be to see, at all, for the first time in years. As this precious little monkey proves--it's pretty darn amazing.

It's truly an honor to be able to watch Kiki the spider monkey's reaction to his first trip outside since gaining his vision back. The poor guy had been blind from cataracts since arriving at @wildacresms 2 years ago, but his life recently changed for the better.

What a special moment for this very special monkey! We love how he takes his time walking through the grass and looking up at the sky. He's not taking a single second for granted, especially when he decides to take in the beauty from his caretaker's arms.

"OMG," wrote commenter @lorianncostello123. "I’m bawling! What a gift you've given him. I bet he liked seeing his caregivers for the first time." That moment must've been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone! Kiki's caretakers at Wild Acres have been caring for the ex-pet monkey since he was surrendered two years ago, so it was a celebration for all when he finally had his surgery. At 24 years old, this rescue monkey can experience the world all over again.

According to the Potter Park Zoo, spider monkeys can live up to 40 years old in captivity. That means Kiki has the potential for at least another decade of adventures with his animal friends! Wild Acres mentioned that they hope to have his spine corrected so he can walk upright soon, so it sounds like he'll only feel better with age.
