Miles Morales has proven himself as a fan-favourite Spider-Man in comic books, video games and animated movies, but we’ve yet to see the hero in a live-action setting. As Sony continues to see the hero’s success in other mediums, the possibility of a live-action Miles Morales movie keeps rising, and we may be close to getting one.

During the premiere of the ill-fated Madame Web, Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal provided an update on Miles’ long-awaited debut. “Someday,” she said when asked about the live-action project. “Not until we make two more movies.”

Okay, that’s not much to go on, but what movies is she talking about? According to Christopher Miller, one of the producers of the Spider-verse movies, she meant the third Spider-verse film and the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film in the MCU.

Beyond the Spider-verse films, Sony is currently working on (and failing to) building its own cinematic universe focused on Spider-Man villains. After the mixed-to-negative receptions of both Venom movies, Morbius and now Madame Web, it might be time to pivot to Miles Morales.

It’s too early for the character to be making his debut in the MCU, with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker just now starting his new life as the street-level Spider-Man. However, given that the Sony Universe is still missing a Spider-Man, that might be where Miles could make his presence felt.

Miles is also starting to get more mainstream attention from both fans and creators. He’s set to be the main Spider-Man going forward in Insomniac’s video games, and he's already popular among younger fans of the franchise with the Spider-verse movies. Even Marvel has been struggling to make Peter Parker relevant in the modern age, with a new reboot that arguably shakes things up just enough to boost the character’s legacy. Sony’s already working on a Spider-Gwen spinoff, so it’s high time we got a Miles Morales live-action debut.

Madame Web is currently in theaters, with Kraven The Hunter releasing on August 30, 2024. Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse currently sits without a release date, as does the untitled fourth MCU Spider-Man film.
