New "Spider-Man: Far From Home" Trailer Reminds Fans of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen Movies

"Spider-Man: Passport to Paris?"

It's been far too long since we've been able to venture along with the Olsen twins on one of their whirlwind adventures, but thankfully, the Internet has apparently found a replacement in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Ahead of the movie's July 2019 release, Sony shared a new trailer, and some Internet detectives — and potential hires for the twins's before dinner time crime-solving unit — noticed a definite similarity between the film and past Olsen twin movies.

The trailer — which features Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spiderman — gives viewers the briefest glimpse of what's to come when Peter travels to Europe for a class trip. Naturally, Spiderman can't exactly take an off day, and while Peter presumes that his vacation will be a relaxing time away from the suit, it quickly becomes apparent that trouble is ahead.

While we were quick to spend the trailer waiting for an appearance from Zendaya and Jake Gyllenhaal, others were more focused on the fact that the movie's plot appears to be a superhero version of a Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie. Twitter users quickly pointed it out, writing, "The Spider-Man Far from Home trailer is giving me Passport to Paris/Lizzie McGuire movie/Sabrina Goes to Rome vibes," and "I don’t follow superhero stuff. Is Spider-Man the new Mary Kate and Ashley? Spider-Man: Passport to Paris? Spider-Man’s Best Summer Ever?"

Although it seems unlikely that one of the Olsen twins's 500 internationally-based crushes will make an appearance, others were definitely noticing that the film had a story similar to cinematic classics Passport to Paris and Winning London.

In a screencap of the trailer, Anna Menta, Newsweek culture writer, even split-screened images from the films, writing, "I'm crying lmao, so the new Spider-man movie is basically just one of those Mary Kate and Ashley movies where they go a new European country???"

Unfortunately, it appears that we'll have to wait until July 5, 2019 to see if Peter gets the same happy ending as the Olsen sisters so often did.
