Anne Hathaway very nearly had a major role in Spider-Man 4, and it could’ve changed everything.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Hathway says she was set to star as Felicia ‘Black Cat’ Hardy in Sam Raimi’s fourth Spider-Man film. After Spider-Man 3 received a lacklustre reception in 2007, however, those plans were scrapped in favor of a complete franchise reboot.

If she was cast as Black Cat, however, she might not have got one of her biggest roles to date, that of Catwoman in Chris Nolan’s The Dark Night Rises.

“That’s how I hold it,” says Hathaway. “The way I hold it is if that movie had gotten made, I don’t know if I would’ve been considered because I don’t know if (Nolan) would’ve said, ‘No, no, she’s occupied in another universe.’”

The same happened earlier in her career, when she narrowly missed out on a musical role. It made her more determined to land the part of Fantine in Les Misérables.

“As an actor," continues Hathaway, “you don’t know this on day one, but you learn to just go, ‘You know what? The right role finds the right person, and sometimes it’s you and sometimes it’s not, so when it doesn’t happen just trust deeper and keep going. Just keep going.”

So, how far did Hathway get in Spider-Man 4 talks? According to the actress, the shut down came early. She never read a script nor got into costume.

It's farther than another potential comic book actor got as Jacob Elordi turned down a Superman role.
