Rumors are circulating Sam Raimi is about to start work on Spider-Man 4.

Twitter user @LukasASoaresRM, who was pictured with the three-time Spider-Man director at the recent Monster-Mania convention, tweeted:

“He told me that there are chances of this happening simply because he has the same desire as we do. But if it is to happen, it will be at the right time.”

The quote was then shared by Twitter accounts DiscussingFilm and FilmUpdates. However, it is worth mentioning there is no record of Raimi actually saying the quote being attributed to him, only the fan’s description, so you’ll have to take it at face value.

Regardless, the thousands of retweets do show serious demand for Raimi to return to his original Spider-Man universe. In fact, Sony is re-releasing his entire Spider-Man trilogy in theaters, starting this April.

Maybe Sony is testing the waters before giving Raimi the go-ahead for a fourth film.

So, is Sam Raimi directing the new Spider-Man film? Afterall, Thomas Haden Church, who played the villain Sandman in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, says:

“There’s always been some kind of…I’ve heard rumors…that Sam Raimi was going to do another [Spider-Man movie] with Tobey [Maguire] and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo.”
