Sperry Debunks Emma Chamberlain Boat Shoe Rumors

Sperry is clearing the air and debunking rumors surrounding boat shoes.
On Wednesday, the boat shoe brand shared a post on its official Instagram, clearing up some confusion regarding a comment popular YouTuber and fashion icon Emma Chamberlain made in a recent Vogue video.

“Addressing the rumors. We have noticed some comments (2) on a recent video suggesting that we paid fashion icon Emma Chamberlain to say that boat shoes are coming back in 2024 and we thought that it would be best to address them before things got out of hand,” the post began. “While we would love to say that, that’s the case, and in the spirit of being transparent with our customers, we can confirm that our relationship with Miss Chamberlain is unrequited (see slide 2.).”
The note was published with a screenshot of Sperry’s DMs between the famed vlogger. They showed that the footwear brand tried to get in contact with Chamberlain on multiple occasions to send her some shoes, however, she did not respond.
For more context, the video Sperry is referencing is titled Emma Chamberlain Rates 2023’s Top Fashion Trends. The video was posted to Vogue’s YouTube channel on Nov. 29 and saw the coffee brand owner rate popular trends from this year. In the video, Chamberlain made some bold trend predictions for 2024, including one on boat shoes. “I really see boat shoes. They will be back. Take it or leave it,” Chamberlain exclaimed.
The snippet of the YouTuber’s boat shoe prediction was even posted to Vogue’s TikTok page just a day after the aforementioned YouTube video went live. Via the brand’s own TikTok page, Sperry commented on Vogue’s TikTok backing the vlogger’s claim, “If Emma Chamberlain says it, you know it’s true!” Chamberlain has yet to respond to this discourse.
