It goes without saying mothers are appreciated for all that they do every day, but Mother’s Day is the one day a year devoted to showing them just how much. Since 1907, the second Sunday in May is a day to celebrate all the mothers and women in our lives.
With Mother’s Day around the corner now is your chance to honor the woman in your life who is special to you. Here are some events and things to do to celebrate and honor motherhood and the women we cherish:
Mother's Day Tea
Spring is in the air at The Rotch-Jones-Duff House as they host their festive Mother’s Day Tea. You will enjoy tea, scones, sandwiches, and sweets in the tented patio garden. Catered by Milward Tea Room the event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at 396 County St, New Bedford. Tickets are $40 for RJD members and $45 for the public, they include tea service and museum admission. Reservations are required and can be found at rjdmuseum.org/buy-tickets-online.
Women’s Fund Mother’s Day 5k Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run
Support the women you love and raise money for a positive change in the community. The Women’s Fund SouthCoast will hold its Mother’s Day 5K Race along with a kid fun run for ages 3 to 12 years old. All the kids will receive a medal and T-shirts given to the first 300 5K Registrants. The cost to enter is $5 per child and $30 per adult starting at 9 a.m. at Cisco Brewers New Bedford, 1482 E Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford. Mother’s Day Brunch
Celebrate the special mothers in your life at the Kilburn Event Center, 127 West Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford. A day of great food, beautiful waterfront views, and quality time with your mom. There are two seatings at 10 a.m. or noon with a brunch buffet including breakfast favorites, baked scrod, penne ala vodka, house-made corned beef hash, a carving station with roast beef and turkey breast, and an omelet station. Tickets are $40 for adults and include a complimentary Bloody Mary or Mimosa; children 2 to 12 years old are $18; and under 2 is free. Wine tasting and Mother's Day Brunch
Fairhaven’s first vineyard just opened up and they are hosting a special day for moms. At Nasketucket Bay Vineyard from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12 enjoy the beauty of the vineyard along with a wine tasting, brunch buffet, and live music. Free day at Battleship Cove
Be a kid again and head down to the Battleship Cove from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 12. Moms who visit with their children will receive free admission. Bring back great memories at 5 Water St., Fall River.
Tea Party
Ready to spoil yourself and your mom for Mother’s Day? Well, Blue Rose Kreations is hosting a special tea party from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at The Soulful Palette, 88 E Grove St., Middleboro. Make your own tea bag to steep and sip, and dig into delicately filled sandwiches, snacks, and sweets. Tickets are $40 per person and include a gift. Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet
Celebrate the beauty of spring and motherhood at Independence Harbor on Sunday, May 12 at 10 Narrows Road, Assonet. Join family and friends for a sumptuous assortment of breakfast and luncheon entrees as well as fruit, salad, dessert, and pastry buffets.
