If you’re looking for a special getaway, it doesn’t get more memorable than sleeping in a covered wagon nestled in the woods of Benton, Tennessee. But unlike in pioneer days, the Conestoga Wagons have (almost all) the modern day comforts: air conditioning, a refrigerator, fluffy pillows and bedding, wifi, and even a private bath house.

There are three wagons available to rent, and they are corralled around a shared firepit, making this an ideal shared spot for a family or a group of friends. Picture it: You’re surrounded by three cozy wagons, roasting marshmallows in a crackling fire, while strings of lights and the stars twinkle above in the night sky.

The wagons are one part of Welcome Valley Village, a 17-acre property with six rental cabins, including the wagons. The Ocoee River runs right alongside the village, and the Cherokee National Forest is just one mile away, providing plenty of opportunities for river rafting, fishing, hiking, or just enjoying the spectacular views from your car. Or, you can head north to explore the Great Smoky Mountains; it’s about a two-hour drive.

Each wagon has a king bed and twin bunk beds, and can accommodate four guests. While the wagon itself consists of one room, it comes equipped with chairs and a kitchenette with thoughtful touches like mugs, a coffee maker, a microwave, and a rustic wash basin sink. There is an outdoor grill and a covered pavilion for shared meals. The bathrooms, which are located just outside the wagons, are far from the bare-bones bathhouses you may have experienced at RV parks and campgrounds. They are designed with pretty blue tiles, and each one includes a shower, toilet, and sink, plus linens.

Comfy enough for the camping-averse, but rustic enough to still feel like an adventure, the Conestoga Wagons are sure to please anyone you’re traveling with.
