Spencer Pratt Shares His Surprising Strategy for Choosing a Baby Name

Spencer Pratt is all set to become a dad. He and his pregnant wife, Heidi Montag, have even selected the perfect name for their baby. But not before checking to make sure the name would shine on social media.

While most people consider meanings, heritage or the first-name-to-last-name flow when weighing baby name options, these parents-to-be did things a bit differently: Pratt admitted that he made sure the social media handle associated with the name of their choosing was available before committing to it.

"We had to ditch a couple names [because those social handles were unavailable]," Pratt said during an appearance on Allegedly with Theo Von & Matthew Cole Weiss podcast, where he discussed plans for his baby's social media-heavy future. “This kid will have an iPhone at birth. I’m gonna teach this kid how to Snap when they’re born, like, ‘Put your finger here.’ You walk around, everybody’s making their own content all day long. We live in a new world where everyone’s a fame wh—e, so I’m happy to let him be at an advanced level."

It's an interesting approach for sure, and we never quite expected social media handle availability to play such a huge role in a couple's baby name decision. But then again, is this really so surprising? It's 2017 and social media is king. While the Pratts' focus on introducing their baby boy, who is due in October, to the Internet at such a young age seems out there, it's worth noting that plenty of kids have five-figure social media followings (or more!) before they celebrate their first birthdays.
