Special Needs Dog Rescue Is Asking for Support Saving a Tiny 5-Week-Old Puppy With Hydrocephalus

It may seem like there are a never ending stream of new pet rescue videos on social media, but there are also tons of animals who still need loving homes and care. Unfortunately, some animals are more likely than others to get adopted, so not everyone has an equal shot at getting what they need to thrive.

Special needs pets, for example, can be harder to find homes for. They require extra care that many foster parents and pet owners don't know how to give, and not everyone has the means to provide extra care to a disabled dog or cat.

Thankfully, there are many special needs animal rescues like the @belikejoshfoundation, which help these incredible pets get the care and love they need to thrive. This Arizona-based rescue recently took in a 5-week-old French Bulldog puppy with suspected hydrocephalus, and they had no idea just how long of a journey would lie ahead.

OMG! Tonka just might be the tiniest puppy I've ever seen, even with all that extra size in his head. He could easily fit in his rescuer's hand at just over a month old, which isn't all that unusual, but just wait until you hear how much--or in this case, how little-- he weighs!

This tiny dog doesn't even weigh one entire pound. He's half of a pound! As you can likely tell, this is a surprise to a lot of commenters, but it's not as big of a surprise as how well he's doing so quickly after joining the rescue.

Just look at him! He's a very hungry puppy, and it's so fun to see him come to life in the rescue's care. Addressing his brain concern will be a lengthy and costly process, but he's making the most of the situation for now.

The Be Like Josh Foundation is struggling financially for the first time in the rescue's history because they're helping so many dogs! Tonka's case alone is going to cost a lot, but the foundation is releasing new merchandise soon in hopes to cover the expenses. We're crossing our fingers for this puppy's easy healing!
