ICYMI: Kate Middleton was recently spotted for the first time after her mysterious — and conspiracy-sparking — abdominal surgery. And right by her side was a special family member who proved that age really is but a number. Because apparently, no matter how old Kate Middleton is, her mom will always be there to take care of her.

In her first “outing” post-surgery, Kate, 42 was seen riding in a car with her mom Carole Middleton, 69 — likely proving a source who previously spoke to People right: “[Her parents Carole and Michael] will be there to lend support.”

“They will be a reassuring presence when she goes back to Windsor to recuperate,” another source told the outlet.

It’s believed that they will not only be helping Kate directly but they will be lending additional support with their grandchildren, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. As all recuperating parents know, it can be just as helpful to have a hand caring for the kids.

“Her parents are an enduring factor in the upbringing of their grandchildren,” the source continued.

Kate will reportedly return to her royal duties after Easter, but is appreciating what the break has meant for her family. Because how often does the Princess of Wales get to spend so much uninterrupted time with her kids? (Spoiler: Not often!) It has to be so nice to take a breather and focus solely on being their mom — for both Kate and the kids.

“She must be looking forward to [her duties],” royal author Robert Jobson told Hello! “but she also feels lucky to be able to have this time with the children and to put her recovery first.”

And what’s the status of that recovery? Well, Jobson said he spoke to “people close to her” and thinks “she is recovering well but is not quite 100 percent.”

Well, we’re certainly glad to hear that things are on the up. Royal editor Emily Nash told Hello! the princess is probably not at the point where she can do school drop-offs or attend her kids’ extracurriculars, but she echoed the fact that this time has been special for Kate.

“She has been able to spend plenty of time with her children at home over the past few weeks and they will have been such a tonic for her,” Nash said. “Her family are absolutely at the center of her world, so being able to have George, Charlotte, and Louis at home with her has no doubt really boosted her spirits.”

We’re sure the same can be said for having her mom by her side.
