Sparkling Red Wine Came Out Of The Water Taps In An Italian Town And Not Everyone Was Mad About It
Have you ever drank something so delicious you just wish you could bathe in it? I can't be the only one—right? A small village in Italy had that opportunity IRL when sparkling wine started spewing from their faucets due to an error at a close by winery.
While we've only heard of one other incident where water turned to wine (😉), it looks like this one was just a mishap. The small town of Settecani in Modena, Italy, was shocked when a pinkish liquid started coming from their faucets, and a Facebook post by local authorities explained that it was not a toxic or harmful liquid—it was purely wine. Videos of the wine coming out of faucets were posted by Corriere TV, an Italian news outlet.
The nearby winery, Settecani Castelvetro Winery, also apologized in a Facebook post explaining what happened. Apparently there was an error with one of the valves of the bottling line, so the liquid was indeed their wine that was not harmful and was in fact ready for bottling. The error was resolved quickly and everyone was free from health or hygiene risks.
The exact sort of wine that was coming out was Lambrusco Grasparossa, a sparkling red wine very popular in Italy that is typically pretty affordable. Some local residents are posted Facebook comments being puzzled by the situation and somewhat concerned about how exactly this mix up occurred, many referencing the fact that they drink their tap water and want to know how some extraneous liquid could enter it. Others recognize the absurdity of it all, and are calling wine flowing from taps "a dream come true" and a great idea for happy hour.
