The Spanish Royals Have Shared Their Annual Christmas Card

It's the most wonderful time of the year of fans of the royal families of Europe. That's because along with carols and celebratory fetes, 'tis also the season of royal holiday cards, and as per usual, the Spanish royal family has not disappointed.

Their 2023 card features a photo from Princess Leonor's 18th birthday, when the heir to the throne—who holds the titles of Princess of Asturias, Princess of Girona, and Princess of Viana—swore allegiance to the Spanish constitution at the Spanish Parliament on her 18th birthday, meaning she can now legally succeed her father, and act as regent in his absence. When she inherits the throne, she will become the first Queen Regent of Spain since Queen Isabella II, who reigned the country from 1833 to 1868.

In the photo, the family pulled together in a blue and white theme, with Leonor wearing the white suit she made her pledge in, while her mother Queen Letizia sports a blue Caroline Herrera dress, her sister, Infanta Sofia, looks charming in a blue and white floral dress, and their father, King Felipe VI, dons a classic suit with a blue tie.

The inscription on the card reads, "Christmas greetings from Their Majesties the King and Queen, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias and Her Royal Highness the Infanta Doña Sofía."

Last year, their holiday card featured just the Spanish princesses, with a stylish nod to their mother in the form of chunky, cozy sweaters by Zara—one of Queen Letizia's go-to brands.

It's been an eventful year for the Spanish royals. In addition to Leonor's milestone birthday and their usual roster of royal events, the king and queen celebrated the coronation of King Charles III along with other monarchs from around the globe. Meanwhile, Princess Sofia celebrated her sweet sixteen with her confirmation.
