Southwest's Latest Sale Has Flights Up to 40% Off — but You'll Have to Book Soon

One of Southwest’s best sales of the year is back — to the tune of up to 40 percent off base fares across its network.

The sale must be booked by Thursday, Jan. 11, at 11:59 p.m. PT and is available for travel from Jan. 30 to May 22. Travelers must use the promo code “WOW” when searching for flights on Southwest’s website or app to see the savings applied.

“We know low fares and lots of flexibility are top of mind for customers, and our Week of WOW delivers on both to kick off a new year of travel adventures,” Jonathan Clarkson, vice president of marketing at Southwest told T+L. “With 121 airports across our vast network, we look forward to serving customers with our legendary hospitality and flexible travel policies, like bags fly free, no change or cancel fees, and flight credits that don’t expire.”

While many airline sales tend to exclude popular days of the week to travel — like Sundays and Mondays — Southwest’s current sale offers discounts for flights every day within the continental U.S.:

  • 40 percent discount for Tuesday and Wednesday travel

  • 30 percent discount for Monday and Thursday travel

  • 25 percent discount for Saturday travel

  • 20 percent discount for Friday and Sunday travel

There are a few notable blackout dates for those planning to book a spring break trip — particularly in the month of March. Continental U.S. travel is blacked out from March 9 to 10, March 16 to 17, March 23 to 24, and March 30 to 31. In addition, travel to Florida is also blacked out on March 1, March 7 to 8, March 15, March 22, and March 28 to 29.

Southwest travelers who truly “wanna get away” can enjoy 30 percent off flights to international destinations, as well as Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Blackout dates include Feb. 15 to 18 and March 7 to 31 for flights to these destinations, and Feb. 23 to 27 and March 14 to April 7 returning from these destinations.

To make the deal even sweeter, all Southwest cardholders will earn 6x points on up to $500 worth of Southwest purchases through Feb. 5. Stacked with this fare sale, fliers could earn up to 3,000 Rapid Rewards points toward their next flight.

Throughout the rest of Southwest’s Week of WOW, travelers can bundle the savings with deals from its partners, including up to 30 percent off rental cars and up to $200 off vacation packages.
