Southern Utah's High Altitude Ski Resort Announces Opening Day

Yesterday, August 30th, Utah resort Brian Head Resort threw its opening day announcement hat into the pre-season hype ring.

See the resort's announcement via Instagram below.

Brian Head's scheduled opening day is November 10th! That's only 72 days from now.

Seem early? I thought so, too. Most major North American resorts wait until late November to start spinning the lifts, aside from Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, which often gets the lifts spinning in October.

But Brian Head is known for beating other resorts to the punch. Last season, it opened on November 4th -- its earliest opening in history.

Remember, while Brian Head plans to get started on November 10th, it's always useful to approach opening dates announced in advance with caution.

While snowmaking can permit limited operations even if snowfall doesn't cooperate, there's only so much you can do if temperatures don't drop.

That said, I'm into the advance opening date announcements popping up throughout North America. Even if they're "scheduled" rather than a certainty, they serve as reminders that skiing, ideally, is only a few months away.

Last season, Brian Head saw more snow than it's seen in 10 years and had its longest operation winter in recorded history. Fingers crossed the resort meets or exceeds that high, high bar come next season.
