Southern Living named this town the most charming in Kentucky. Here's where and why.

Northern Kentucky city topped Southern Living's list of the state's most charming small towns.

Bellevue, which borders the Ohio River, ranked No. 1 on the magazine's list of 13 towns.

Southern Living said Bellevue combines "city convenience with the yesteryear charm of historic Kentucky river towns." The outlet noted the city's proximity to Newport on the Levee, local events − such as farmers markets and art shows − and the many small businesses along Fairfield Avenue.

Visitors will find antique stores, microbreweries and brunch spots, the magazine said. Bourbon aficionados can also make a stop on the B-Line at Three Spirits Tavern.

Further down the Ohio River, Maysville, Kentucky, also made the list at No. 10.
