Southern California Vet Tech Runs 24-Hour Ambulance Service for Veterinary Emergencies

Many animal lovers follow their passions to become pet owners, while others feel more drawn to farm animals. Of course, some folks become veterinarians or animal rescuers, too! And then there's Albert Sanchez, a selfless Southern California man who runs a 24/7 ambulance service for pets.

NBC Bay Area explains that Sanchez spent over 30 years as a veterinary technician before switching focus to his ambulance business, Veterinary Ambulance of Southern California, in July 2021. He transformed a van into the ideal animal transport vehicle, and now he helps transport cats and dogs in both urgent and everyday situations.

This man is a true hero! We can only imagine how much relief, support, and comfort he offers to pet parents during the most worrying times. Those who have had to rush to the emergency vet know just how stressful and emotional those moments can be.

Sanchez told NBC News that he was inspired to start his business after seeing just how difficult it was for pet parents to transport their fur babies. Another animal ambulance service was in business, but it quickly became more expensive than many owners could afford.

This Southern California pet transportation service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but that doesn't mean it's always quick. After all, Albert Sanchez is only one person.

"It’s pretty much a one-man show,” he said. “Occasionally, when we have a critical pet that needs constant attention, I’ll bring somebody with me to drive, and I’ll usually take care of the pet during the transport.”

This is why Sanchez hopes to expand his business to help more pets. He documents many of his cases on an Instagram account, @veterinaryambulance, but he also runs a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his business--and hopefully, a second ambulance.

Sanchez is happy to help transport pets for any reason. Whether a cat needs oxygen supplementation or a dog is too large for their owner to pick up--he's got it! In emergencies, too, he will help as much as he can. If only there were more selfless people like him in the world!
