This Southeast Kansas park is ready for a busy summer season

FARLINGTON, Kan. — Families flocked to a Southeast Kansas lake to celebrate the holiday weekend.

Crawford State Park in Farlington has seen many people visiting this weekend.

Last year, the lake was facing extremely low water levels, but it’s not an issue this year.

Park officials say their camping spots have booked up fast for this weekend.

We spoke with one family about why Crawford State Park is their perfect spot.

“It’s fun, it’s a nice beach, it’s always kept really clean – camping is fun. I just feel like there is plenty of stuff to do to keep you busy – but I think there is a fish hatchery. I hear the restaurant is really good. There’s just a lot of stuff to do,” said Ashley Watkins, Crawford State Park visitor.

Meanwhile – Crawford State Park is ready for a busy summer.

On top of camping, fishing, boating, the beach, and kayak rentals – they recently added pickleball courts to the grounds.

The park also offers live music every Friday.

Hiking and biking trails are available – and it costs $5 for a car pass.

“A lot of people come out and they don’t realize how pretty it is, they don’t realize this is Kansas. I would say this is the peak of Kansas right here on how pretty nature is out here,” said Hunter Hampton, Crawford State Park ranger.

Crawford State Park will host a free fishing day on June 1.

Local biologists will come out that day to help teach kids all about fish.
