Source Home & Gift Will Connect Buyers with Global Manufacturers

With the holidays fast approaching, retailers are looking to offer customers high-quality gifting goods. The upcoming Source Home & Gift show in the United Kingdom will help merchants discover sustainable home, textile and gifting manufacturers that can help them produce products that will excite and delight shoppers.

The second edition of the trade event, organized by Hyve Group, will gather over 430 pre-vetted responsible suppliers from around the globe at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from Sept. 3-6. Among the categories featured are homewares, furniture, textiles, stationery, toys and gifts.

Each of the vendors exhibiting at Source Home & Gift must submit an audit from an institution such as SEDEX, providing buyers with peace of mind that the manufacturers have ethical practices.

“The scale at which Source Home & Gift is growing is incredible,” said Suzanne Ellingham, director of sourcing at Source Home & Gift. “Our team has been working hard with governments and agencies from across the world to bring best in class manufacturers and artisan producers to the UK to share their capabilities with the UK market.”

With consumers increasingly interested in décor trends and styles from afar, the show has assembled an impressive global mix of manufacturers skilled at bringing various styles to life. Confirmed international exhibitors so far hail from Bangladesh, China, Germany, Ghana, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uganda, United States and Uzbekistan. There are also vendors from the United Kingdom, allowing buyers to source locally.

Across the show floor will be numerous sustainable stories. For instance, Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society from Palestine is a World Fair Trade Organization that represents and markets goods from around 35 artisan workshops that manufacture using mother of pearl and olivewood. The organization aims to alleviate poverty and provide employment opportunities while also preserving heritage craft and preventing emigration out of Palestine.

Taking on plastic waste, China-based Wuhu Lvkang Environmental Technology Co., Ltd is giving disposable tableware an eco-friendly makeover with biodegradable and non-toxic plates and bowls made of bamboo fiber and sugarcane.

Exhibitors cover a wide range of product categories. There will be producers who specialize in tableware, ceramics, wooden furniture, outdoor furnishings, home textiles, fashion accessories, pajamas, greeting cards, notebooks, writing implements, candles, small electronics and children’s toys such as puzzles and stuffed animals.

Among the exhibitors are Banaras Beads Limited, which produces DIY jewelry components in India; Geolicrafts Company Limited, a Ghana-based supplier of traditional musical instruments and handcrafts; Moonraker Design Ltd., which designs gift packaging, party tableware and greeting cards in the United Kingdom and with manufacturers in China; and Smart Zone Ace, a local Birmingham toy manufacturer behind the Mighty Wheels brand of durable steel and plastic play trucks.

In addition to producers, the show will include technology exhibitors such as B2B marketplace Made-in-China.com.

A seminar series will get attendees up to speed on the latest innovations and developments in sustainability, materials, manufacturing and trade. The program will open with Insider Trends’ head of trends and futurist Jack Stratten sharing insights about sustainable sourcing and technology.

Another topic on the agenda will be the newly launched Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which allows for duty-free imports from 65 countries into the United Kingdom. The International Trade Centre (ITC) will speak about the opportunities and financial incentives available to companies when sourcing from developing countries. The seminar series will also feature talks about establishing relationships with new regions.

On Sept. 5, Proper Snacks founder Cassandra Stavrou MBE will discuss building consumer connections and communities through storytelling and responsible manufacturing. The independent B Corp snack brand recently partnered with the “Barbie” movie to build buzz.

For executives who cannot make the show in person, the seminars will be available to stream on-demand.

Source Home & Gift is co-located with Hyve’s gift and home marketplace Autumn Fair, which will feature 1,300 exhibitors showcasing finished goods. Combined, the two shows provide a wide array of buying options for retailers in one place.

“Our job is to balance scale and quality across key buying categories, with a range of minimum order values and variety of finishes and we will bring together hundreds of manufacturers to help you create your ranges and meet your responsible sourcing needs,” said Ellingham.
