Odd Bugg Studio is making a Tails of Iron sequel called Whiskers of Winter, and the Soulslike Metroidvania is set to launch later in 2024. The indie game sequel still has vengeance at its core and The Witcher voice actor Douglas Cockle as its narrator, but Odd Bug is aiming to make everything bigger and better with the sequel.

“We are delighted to finally announce our return to Ratdom with Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter, and start a new ‘tail’ of bloodshed and medieval revenge,” Jack Bennett, Odd Bug co-founder, said in a statement.

“We wanted to build upon what we achieved with the first installment and create a game that was more than just a straightforward sequel. The new gameplay mechanics, the addition of monster hunting sidequests, together with improved crafting and base building, all work together to make Arlo’s crusade in the northern wastelands even more epic than King Redgi’s.”

In addition to those new quests and better base building, Whiskers of Winter features a new enemy type – bats. That might not sound like much, but airborne foes are a pretty big – and welcome – change over the first game’s fifty shades of frog. Other animal factions make an appearance, and Arlo, the hero this time around, can imbue his weapon with elemental energy to exploit weaknesses and create new combos as well.

It’s not all battles and bloodshed, though. Arlo will make friends with some of the critters he encounters, and they’ll manage certain aspects of his base while he’s out dealing with battles and bloodshed.

Tails of Iron: Whiskers of Winter launches sometime later in 2024 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
