These sorting hat cupcakes will reveal your Hogwarts house in one magical bite

Something wicked this way comes, but actually something wonderful because Sorting Hat Cupcakes exist. Anyone who has ever been obsessed with Harry Potter has wondered what Hogwarts house they would be sorted into by the Sorting Hat. There are countless websites and quizzes online based off personality that will help you decide (and obviously the OG on Pottermore), but now there is an even more delicious way to get sorted.

Make your favorite cupcake flavor, and just by cutting through the middle, you can fill with colored icing from the four Hogwarts houses: red for Gryffindor, green for Slytherin, yellow for Hufflepuff, and blue for Ravenclaw. These cupcakes are easy to make and don’t forget to add a fun witch hat when you decorate. Did you know Bugles make great hats dipped in chocolate? These Sorting Hat sweet treats are a must for any Harry Potter-themed party.

Sorting Hat Cupcakes

Serves: 24 (serving size: 2 cupcakes)
Active 30 min. Total 2 hours

Ingredients:

1 (15.25-oz.) pkg. classic white cake mix
8 oz. chocolate candy melts (such as Wilton)
48 cone-shaped crispy corn snacks (such as Bugles)
2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup (8 oz.) unsalted butter, softened
1 Tbsp. whole milk
Green gel food coloring
Red gel food coloring
Blue gel food coloring
Yellow gel food coloring
1 container ready-to-spread vanilla frosting
Edible bronze luster spray

Recipe:

1. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Line 4 mini muffin tins with paper cupcake liners. Pour batter into prepared tins. Bake at package recommended temperature, until a toothpick inserted in center of a cupcake comes clean, 11 to 12 minutes. Let cool in pans 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

2. While cupcakes are cooling, place chocolate candy melts in a microwavable bowl. Microwave on 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until melted, about 2 minutes. Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Spoon 48 teaspoonfuls of chocolate onto wax paper, flattening each of them into 1 1/2 to 2-inch discs. Chill until almost set, about 2 minutes. Dip crispy corn snacks into remaining bowl of chocolate, and place 1 onto each discs to form a wizard hat shape. Chill until fully set.

3. Beat together powdered sugar and butter in a medium bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and combined, about 1 minute. Beat in milk until smooth. Divide frosting among 4 separate bowls. Add a few drops of 1 color of food coloring to each bowl; stir to combine. Place each colored frosting into piping bags or small ziplock plastic bags with a corner snipped, making 4 different bags of colored frosting. Place vanilla frosting in a piping bag or large ziplock plastic bag with corner snipped.

4. Using a small spoon, scoop out about 1/4 teaspoon of top of each cupcake to create a hole in the center of each cupcake. Pipe red frosting into centers of 12 cupcakes, followed by green, yellow, and blue in remaining cupcakes. Pipe white frosting on tops of cupcakes to cover colored centers until tops of cupcakes are covered. Spray frosting with edible luster spray, and top each with a chocolate wizard hat.
