From Cosmopolitan

If you were Hailey Baldwin Bieber, you’d probably be stressed the F out right now. There have been So! Many! Dramatic! Reports! about her relationship hitting the news this week. But the actual Hailey, sitting across from me in Malibu in a shimmery silver ROXY one-piece that she's wearing as a bodysuit, couldn’t look more chill.

Without her blinged-out necklace (featuring gigantic bubble letters spelling B-I-E-B-E-R, it's casual), I might’ve mistaken her for a legit ROXY surfer, like her best friend Kelia Moniz, who is busy laughing at an Instagram Story on Hailey’s phone. We're here to talk about ROXY’s new Sister collection-not the news that Hailey's wedding to Justin Bieber is on hold-and Hailey seems, well, calm.

So how does she handle the media scrutiny? I obviously had to ask. Step 1. She doesn't read the comments. "I’ve found that I got to a place where I don’t read the comments,” she explains. “You still care to a certain extent. You really have to train your brain to be like, ‘Okay, why do I even care? I don’t know these people, they don’t know me, they’re not a part of my life or my relationship.’ People can just be mean, and I feel like if you don’t want it to get to you, then don’t read it and allow it to affect your soul."

Step 2. She takes a break. "Sometimes I delete Instagram for a couple days at a time, which is really nice. I’ve done that when I’ve felt like I really couldn’t handle what people were saying or it was like what I was looking at was unavoidable,” she said. Hailey, Kelia, and I had a long convo about social media, and how their friendship inspired the new ROXY line-check out the rest of it below.

I love your necklace. I had one like it growing up, though obviously it didn’t say Bieber.

Hailey: [laughs] You never know, [depends on] what type of fan you are.

The ROXY Sister collection is inspired by your bond. But since most people have no idea what your friendship is truly like, how would you describe it?

Hailey: We’re just close. We got along really easily from the day we met. It sounds like we’re like a couple. [laughs] I guess for a minute, it felt like we were, because I was single and alone and attached to Kelia's side, and she’s a married woman.

Kelia: And then she was stolen from me by this young man!

When was the moment that you knew this was going to be a lifelong friendship?

Kelia: Probably within the first few times we hung out. It was so easy to hang out with her that I was like, I’m never going to not like this girl.

Hailey: She’s never going to escape me...I want us to, like, have kids at the same time and do life together.

How do you maintain your close relationship when you both have to travel so much?

Hailey: It’s the same as when you’re in a relationship, and you both separate for work. You’ve just got to make time for each other and see each other. And you’ve got to make time for your friends no matter what.

Kelia, what’s the best advice Hailey’s ever given you?

Kelia: Watching the way this girl handles her life under the microscope of literally the entire universe...She holds the standard of who she is as an individual so high. She’s the same consistent human being, always. And she goes through all the craziness of her life so positively and strongly and doesn’t let all the outside comments and all the things of life hinder her spirit, and it’s really really inspiring to see.

What about you Hailey, what have you learned from your friendship with Kelia?

Hailey: Not how to surf! Just kidding...Kelia and I are close in age, but she’s still a little older than me. She got married before I did. She really helped give me advice when I was still single and I was going through things with guys. She was around for all of it. She’s watched me go on this journey from being single and kind of trying to date to getting married. She was where I was only a year or two before, so she was fresh out of every scenario I was just getting into. And then getting married-she was always giving the right advice at the right time, for every season I was going through.

How did you decide to team up in a professional context with ROXY?

Hailey: It's fun! I get to have fun. Her husband [photographer] Joe [Termini] shot it, and he’s honestly one of my favorite people. Some of my favorite photographs of myself that I have or I’ve seen are by her husband.

Kelia: It was one of those things that was kind of a no-brainer when the opportunity presented itself. And I was really excited because ROXY is such a big part of my life as a surfer and has been for more than 10 years now.

What was working together actually like?

Kelia: For me, it was like, "I’m about to shoot with a supermodel, so I’ve got to get my act together." [Editor's note: Hailey interjected at this point with a laugh and a "whatever."] It was fun though. I’ve been on a few of her shoots before, watching her do her thing, and she knows what she’s doing. Obviously. My husband shoots me as well, so it’s not that I don’t know what I’m doing, but it’s also like she’s on a whole other wavelength with the whole modeling thing. So I got to learn a lot. It's fun to do it together, I just get to hug my friend and smile for my husband.

Hailey: It was fun, we were laughing and joking around with each other. It was just easy, it makes the job not feel like a job.
