Sorel Names Cory Long as President

Columbia Sportswear Company announced on Thursday the appointment of Cory Long as president of footwear brand Sorel. He will take on the position in December.

Long, who has a long history in the footwear and apparel industries, comes to Sorel from DC Shoes, where he held the role of global general manager and chief global merchant. He has also held roles at brands like Mitchell & Ness, Asics, Supra and Converse.

“We are delighted to have Cory join the Sorel family,” said Craig Zanon, senior vice president of emerging brands at Sorel. “His strength of leadership and consumer-champion mindset will be key in fueling the next era of Sorel growth.”

Long takes on the position from Zanon, who stepped into the role as interim president in June after Sorel president Mark Nenow stepped down from the role due to health reasons. Nenow was in the position for 16 years.

The appointment comes shortly after Sorel hosted its first pop-up initiative in Williamsburg to celebrate its 60-year heritage, its classic Caribou boot style, and a collaboration with musician and actress Chloe Bailey. The pop-up was part of the brand’s new strategy of expanding its customer base to new audiences, including globally.

Last year, Columbia Sportswear stated Sorel would be its fastest-growing brand this year, projecting a 20 to 22 percent growth rate in the next three years. In 2022, Sorel saw net sales of $347 million.
