‘Sopranos’ writers named character Johnny Sack after this local NYC pizza place

They gave them a slice of the mob action.

The writers of “The Sopranos” ate the pizza and pasta from Sac’s Place in Queens so often that they named one of the show’s key characters after the joint’s owners.

The show’s Mafia underboss-turned boss John Sacrimoni, also known as Johnny Sack, was named in honor of brothers Anthony and Domenico Sacramone, who own the Astoria restaurant, the duo revealed to The Post.

“I get a call saying, ‘Hey, we got a nice surprise for you. Watch the second episode of this season. And there’s this guy Johnny Sack,'” Anthony said of the character played by Vincent Curatola, who appeared on the HBO series from Season 1 through 6.

“So all my cousins are calling us up, saying, ‘Hey, you guys got anything to do with this?’ I said, ‘Well, what do you think?'”

The eatery, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary by revealing the “Secrets of Sac’s” on Instagram this month, delivered pizza pies and pasta dishes like lasagna, gnocchi and ravioli to the “Sopranos” set for lunch every day.

The ritual started in 1998, after Anthony met one of the writers for the show, which debuted in 1999, at the now-closed Chez Jacqueline restaurant in Greenwich Village.

A week and a half later, he called to order lunch for the entire writing team, and Anthony personally delivered it to Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, where the show was filmed.

“There were 20 guys and girls in a glass enclosure and you hear one guy go, ‘And Soprano did this and Soprano did that.’ And then all of a sudden the guy goes, ‘Yeah, that sounds good. Write it down, write it down,'” said Anthony, 68.

Sac’s Place, which originally opened in 1989 on Broadway and 29th Street in Astoria, relocated in 2019 to the lot of Kaufman Astoria Studios, home to the only outdoor stage facility in the Big Apple. Shows such as “Orange Is the New Black” and “Nurse Jackie” were filmed there, and “Sesame Street” has been taped there since 1992.

The production lot first opened in 1920 as Paramount Pictures and Sac’s is housed in the movie studio’s former commissary, where silent film actors like Rudolph Valentino, Gloria Swanson and the Marx Brothers would eat.
