Sophie Turner Says Her Wedding to Joe Jonas Was Supposed to Stay a Secret—but Then Diplo Livestreamed It

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas surprised fans last month when they casually popped over to a Las Vegas wedding chapel and tied the knot after attending the Billboard Music Awards. The couple was engaged, but fans were expecting a big summer wedding, not a super-under-the-radar ceremony featuring Ring Pops and an Elvis impersonator.

As it turns out, Turner (and Jonas) weren't planning on making their marriage public knowledge quite yet, but then Diplo shot video of it and posted it to Instagram. “...It’s tricky when people livestream it,” Turner said in a recently published interview with Porter magazine that took place just a week after the "semi-spontaneous" wedding. She's not mad, though: “It would have been better if no one had known, but I actually think it was funny,” she says.

When asked if she really would have kept it a secret, Turner replied, “Maybe not forever. I think at some point I would have had to stop saying ‘fiancé’, but yes, I would have kept it a secret. Marriage is a private thing between two people, and I think that’s how it should always be. It’s not about the dress; it’s not about the food. It’s about being husband and wife and being dedicated to each other forever.”

Earlier in the week, Jonas expressed a similar sentiment during a radio interview, according to People. "Diplo did. Yeah, he ruined it," he said. “I love Diplo. But he loves his ‘gram more than a 13-year-old. He posts every five seconds. He literally livestreamed with dog face filters.”

Diplo, naturally, took to Instagram to post a joking response writing, "The only thing that ‘ruined’ the wedding was your fit"—a reference to Jonas' attire. Jonas kept it simple by responding, "🙄."

Although the wedding might have been more public than the couple intended, Turner is still very happy with the marriage part of the equation. "I don’t know if I feel like a wife yet,” she said in the same Porter interview. “I don’t know how I feel. I mean, I feel good, obviously. But it happened so recently that I’m just kind of floating at the moment.”
