Sophie Turner Says Her Hair Almost Fell Out During “Game of Thrones” Filming

Fans of the HBO series Game of Thrones know that the show's fictional Westeros setting isn't exactly a drama-free place to call home. From the resident dragons to the frequent character departures, there's a lot that goes on in the realms. It certainly isn't easy for any of the characters, especially after an onscreen makeover caused an IRL hair disaster for Sophie Turner.

In a new interview with Glamour, Sophie opened up about the toll that playing her iconic GoT character has taken on her hair. "A few years ago, I was trying to go back from red to blonde, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig for Game of Thrones," she said. "They wouldn't let me dye it back red or my hair would've fallen out." Fans may recall that Sophie had debuted her lighter-colored hair on the red carpet.

To combat the damage of her dye job, she said she uses a WellaPlex hair mask that she likes to leave on for 10 minutes while watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Sophie isn't the only GoT cast member who's experience hair damage for the sake of looking Westeros apropos. Costar Emilia Clarke recently revealed that playing Daenerys Targaryen took a toll on her strands, too. "My hair was, like, dying! So I’ve cut it a little bit shorter," she said, revealing that she dyed her hair Khaleesi's signature platinum for the show's final season after years of relying on wigs to get the look. "It’s almost the shortest it’s been. I’m honestly trying to grow out the blonde, because it’s just killed my hair, and I miss having nice hair! I do like the length, but I wish my hair was longer."
