Sophie, Countess of Wessex Has a Super Personal Nickname for Queen Elizabeth

Sophie, Countess of Wessex has a very close relationship with her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth. In fact, the 54-year-old royal even has a special nickname for the 93-year-old monarch.

Last week, the pair attended a reception at Buckingham Palace in honor of the queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust. During the event, the Countess of Wessex gave a speech about her mother-in-law’s accomplishments. Although she referred to the queen as “Your Majesty” on several occasions, Sophie also revealed a super personal nickname: “Mama.”

She said, “Mama, when I have returned from my travels, I have been so proud to share with you the work I have witnessed being carried out under the umbrella of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust and the care of so many people working so hard to save and cure sight.”

Sophie is married to Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son, Prince Edward. We’re not surprised that she calls the monarch “Mama,” since they’ve developed a close bond over the years.

Still, Sophie isn’t the only member of the royal family to give the queen a nickname. Back in 2016, Kate Middleton made a cameo in the ITV documentary The Queen at Ninety and revealed that her children call Queen Elizabeth “Gan-Gan.”

“George is only 2-and-a-half, and he calls her ‘Gan-Gan,’” Middleton said. “She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that just shows her love for her family.”

We have to say: Sophie and Queen Elizabeth’s relationship is #inlawgoals.
