You Can Soon Spritz Your Ice Cream With This Edible Perfume

It's summertime, which means after eating dinner and cleaning up the kitchen, all I crave is a little somethin' sweet. No joke, I walked 20 blocks round trip last night to get a Shake Shack milkshake in the rain—worth every second.

Salt & Straw, the small ice cream chain with a cult following, is celebrating summer in an...interesting way with the first-ever ice cream perfume. Now, before you make a "bleh" noise and imagine a musty ethanol spritz on your ice cream, let me explain what these perfumes will be like.

The brand claims that most ice creams don't have a scent because of their super-low temperatures. And because so much of taste comes from smell, there could be a whole olfactory-flavor experience we're missing. This is where the edible perfume from Salt & Straw comes in.

There are three different flavors, each meant to enhance the ice cream-eating experience, not change the flavor. A Cloud of Cocoa mimics the inside of a bakery, with notes of malted milkshake and chocolate. A Plume of Blooms has notes of late spring with jasmine and honeysuckle. A Swoon of Citrus is juicy and citrus-forward with hints of key lime pie, lychee, and lemon. It can be sprayed on ice cream or even on yourself—yep, it's wearable, too!

While it's not yet available, you can get yourself on the waitlist for when the perfumes are released on July 17, National Ice Cream Day. A 65ml bottle goes for $65, a travel-size three pack of each scent is $48, and a spritz in retail locations is 50 cents.
