Sony and Warner Bros Pull 100s Of Shows From PlayStation Store

PlayStation has warned that digital shows from Warner Bros Discovery will disappear from the PlayStation Store at the end of December, whether you own the media or not.
The official update from Sony does very little to explain the move, but it effectively removes hours of shows legitimately purchased by PlayStation owners.
“As of 31 December 2023, due to our content licensing arrangements with content providers, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased Discovery content and the content will be removed from your video library,” reads an update from Sony. “We sincerely thank you for your continued support.”
The move is a reminder that content bought and downloaded on digital services is only licensed, not owned. Many of the shows being removed from the PlayStation store only exist in digital formats, and it’s not possible to buy them in a physical format.
Understandably, PlayStation owners are raging against the decision.
oh, so it appears a lot of y’all don’t know this…when you “buy” a digital copy, you’re simply purchasing a license to view, you do not OWN that movie…think of it more like a movie ticket, you get to watch the movie but you don’t own it
my advice is just buy a physical copy… https://t.co/9bWhxX1KnW— jake who remains (@lord_anarchy) December 3, 2023

The move from Warner Bros seems to mark the end of a content purge, where the media company wrote off movies such as Batgirl as a tax loss rather than release it.
It also cancelled shows like Westworld and purged a lot of HBO Max content from its services.
