Leading up to Sony’s recent State of Play, all eyes were on Hideo Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions, to give an update on Death Stranding 2. Rumors that the game would be previewed at the State of Play livestream were basically confirmed when Kojima shared the event’s announcement on his social media.

As anticipated, the first trailer and title for Death Stranding 2 is out. Kojima didn’t disappoint either, with nearly ten minutes of gameplay action. Officially dubbed Death Stranding: On the Beach, the trailer sees Norman Reedus return as Sam, while Léa Seydoux plays Fragile and Troy Baker portrays Sam’s brother, Higgs. The video also teases the unnamed new characters of Shioli Kutsuna and Elle Fanning.

While Sam made his living as a courier in the original game, the sequel takes place in a new world where shuttling things around via humans isn’t necessary and robots have filled his prior role.

The video doesn’t offer much in the way of the game’s storyline, however, and may be especially confusing to those who haven’t already played the original Death Stranding.

Death Stranding: On the Beach will be available for PlayStation 5 and is scheduled to launch in 2025. Watch the game’s State of Play trailer above.
