Sony Reportedly Wants to Produce More PS4s to Deal With PlayStation 5 Shortage

According to reports, Sony is set to produce more PlayStation 4 units to deal with the PlayStation 5 shortage.

Originally planning to end production of new PS4 consoles by the end of 2021, the Japanese tech company has been forced to reconsider its aim to transition to its next-gen console. Exasperated by the COVID-19 pandemic, chip shortages and supply chain issues have made it difficult for sony to match the demand for the PS5.

Reports go on to note that Sony is planning to produce an additional million PS4 units in 2022, which requires significantly less advanced chips and is much cheaper to manufacture.

Although this is not what gamers have been asking for, it is interesting to note that upcoming Sony PlayStation exclusive titles like God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West will be available on both PS4 and PS5 this year.
