Sonic has been known to shock and amaze with its menu items. It definitely stays true to its old-school drive-in restaurant feeling with a robust menu of burgers, fries, shakes, and coneys. And yet, its non-traditional fast food items are some of its most popular, like the Reba McEntire-loved tots or the Buffalo chicken dip bites that nearly broke the internet.

While Sonic has always seemed to keep its head down when it comes to fast food drama, recently the chain has entered the chat with some pretty big swings. In March, Sonic threw its hat in the chicken wrap ring with the launch of its Crispy Chicken Wraps, priced at just $2 each. Not even McDonald’s long-gone Snack Wrap can beat that price.

And, now, Sonic seems to be eying Wendy’s with its latest spring menu launch.

Sonic just added two new square burgers and a creamsicle-inspired slush to its menu. Sound familiar? Maybe it’s just us, but the new items sound pretty similar to Wendy’s signature square patties and new Orange Dreamsicle Frosty. But hey, we won’t tell Wendy if you won’t.

Sonic’s spring menu features an all-new Cheesy Bacon Sonic Stack and Cheesy Bacon SuperSonic Stack plus Orange Cloudsicle Slush Float.

The bacon burgers start with square patties topped with bacon, American cheese, pickles, diced onions, ketchup, and mayo between two pieces of Texas toast. The only difference between the Sonic Stack and SuperSonic Stack is that the “super” burger includes two patties.

Square patty aside, Sonic might have Wendy’s beat with the use of its thick, buttery Texas toast instead of a traditional bun. Sonic has a fan-loved Texas Toast Grilled Cheese Sandwich that’s available all year round, but this isn’t the first time Sonic has added its seasoned burgers to the toast.

The chain has periodically offered a Texas toast Patty Melt—similar to those found at Whataburger—in the past. Customers love the melt, topped with onions, cheese, mustard, and mayo, so the Sonic Stack seems like the next best thing for its Texas toast.

As far as the slush dessert, it's an entirely new offering made with orange cloudsicle slush and orange-vanilla-flavored popping bubbles, topped with soft serve and more popping bubbles.

With the Orange Cloudsicle Slush Float launch, it seems like the nostalgic orange creamsicle is officially the flavor of the season.

While the menu items are available at most locations now, they're officially launching at all Sonic restaurants nationwide on May 6. All three of Sonic’s spring offerings will be available for a limited time. How long will that be? Normally, a few months—unless these menu items become uber popular (like the Buffalo chicken dip bites). If so, perhaps Sonic will rethink their availability.

Either way, we’re already drooling over the new Sonic Stack burgers, so we’ll see you at the drive-in in 10.
