Four months out from the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel, Paramount has now unveiled the film's first poster.

In typical Sonic fashion, the new poster once again depicts the titular protagonist escaping from Jim Carrey's diabolical villain Dr. Robotnik, who is seen in the background pursuing the blue hedgehog in his iconic hovering pod. Unlike the poster for the first film, however, the sequel's take puts Sonic up in the air, riding on top of his red Tornado propellor plane piloted by none other than Tails himself.

Most noticeably, the poster doesn't feature Knuckles, which has been a long-anticipated character to join the second installment. After teasing the arrival of the crimson echidna for some time, British actor Idris Elba finally confirmed his voice acting role for the character back in August to the delight of fans, sharing a teaser image of Knuckles emblematic spiked fist.

As expected, Ben Schwartz will return as Sonic himself alongside Colleen O'Shaughnessey as tails, and Carrey, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will hit cinemas on April 8, 2022.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Nick Offerman has joined the cast of the live-action adaptation for The Last of Us as Bill.
