This Song Made Entirely of Bird Sounds Is Soaring up the Music Charts

Nestled between pop music’s hottest acts, a decidedly unlikely song is climbing most popular musical singles chart in the UK.

As Good News Network recently pointed out, a song called “Let Nature Sing”—a track made up entirely of bird sounds—is currently ranked as the 11th most popular musical single. And we can see why. The two-and-a-half-minute song is truly enchanting.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) released the single last month to raise awareness for vulnerable bird species. The track features the songs of many threatened and endangered birds of the UK to “get more people talking about the beautiful sounds the we could lose.”

According to RSPB, more than 40 million birds have vanished from UK skies in just 50 years. Furthermore, 56% of species in the UK are in decline, and one in ten members of the wildlife population are critically endangered.

“Birdsong has been one of the biggest influences of our song, poetry and literature,” Sam Lee, who helped edit the single, said in a release. “The loss of it should concern us all, because it is a signal that all is not well in the world. We should see birdsong as a barometer for the health of this planet, and hence of ourselves.”

Martin Harper, RSPB Director of Conservation, agrees.

“The signs are all around us that something is not right, that nature is falling silent and you only need to stop and listen to find the beautiful bird song that should be the background music to our life is absent,” he said.
