What is the ‘someone mentions’ trend on TikTok?

TikTokers are using a new trend to truly show what they are excited about in life.

The latest trend utilizes the slideshow feature and uses three pictures to get the TikTokers’ point across. The first two slides are normally the same photo and say some form of “when someone mentions…” Then, the user will mention something they aren’t particularly fond of — on top of a photo that usually has a lifeless expression.

However, on the third photo, users post a different, happy picture of themselves and then list off the things they’d be more than willing to discuss or do.

“When they mention sunsets, spaces, theories about the world, religion, art, sharks, good music, romance, passions, coffee dates, spotify playlists, old fashioned love, their favorite hoodie, frank ocean, traveling the world, saving the earth, deep conversations, seeing new places and going on adventures,” wrote @notlivnucci in the third slide of her post.

Comment sections across TikTok have been excited to see what people enjoy and would be willing to join them in their favorite hobbies.

“Wait like can we be friends,” replied @hannahjean56.

“It’s like you took a screenshot of my brain,” commented @vedahahaha.

While this trend is new, the audio behind it isn’t. The song accompanying these posts is called “Ebb Tide” by Ben Flocks. A TikToker named Joshua (@shuaskiddy) posted a compilation of jazz music in 2021 and used Flocks’ song as the soundtrack.

Now, instead of trying to find jazz songs they like, TikTokers are showing what means the most to them.

These types of TikToks aren’t new, as users have employed this format before. Earlier this year, instead of showing what they love, TikTokers used this template to show what they proudly hate.

The only difference now is that the video is three slides long instead of two, and many users are spreading positivity instead of hate.
