Someone Reedited "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" and Removed All the Women

Despite Star Wars: The Last Jedi breaking box office records and becoming the top-grossing movie of 2017, the film still had some detractors. The film, which was lauded for its inclusion of diverse women characters has now received a fan-made remake that cuts out all the women onscreen. And it looks like plenty of people on the Internet and even some of the movie's stars are not here for it.

BuzzFeed reports that an unknown user uploaded their homemade edit of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which removed appearances from women to torrent sites. The edit brought the film down from its run time of 2 hours and 35 minutes to 46 minutes and was titled "The Last Jedi: De-Feminized Fanedit," being described as having removed all the "Girlz Powah and other silly stuff." The version apparently removed pretty much any scenes in which women were leading others, thinking for themselves, or basically talking.

Priscilla Page tweeted a screenshot of news article about the edit and wrote, "ahhaahahahhahahahahahhahahhahahahahhahhhhhaaaahahahha." The tweet then went viral and even caught the attention of many of those that were involved with The Last Jedi. Director Rian Johnson simply laughed, as did actors Mark Hamill and John Boyega.

People on social media then chimed in with their own responses, joining the choir of emojis. One person wrote, "How pathetic must you be to make a sexist edit of The Last Jedi? How insecure must you be that the existence of women in a Star Wars film drives you to take the time to do something like this?" Based on the reaction of fans, it seems safe to say that many much preferred the original Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
