  • Laura Dern is nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Netflix's Marriage Story.

  • To celebrate, let's take a little journey through her obsession with Baby Yoda from The Madalorian.

Okay, in comparison to all the other Oscar nominees this year, Netflix's Marriage Story was rather...pedestrian. The two-hour cry for a Screenwriting 101 tutorial wasn't all bad though—we did get Laura Dern's iconic monologue between scenes of Scarlett Johansson dancing and Adam Driver punching a wall. The scene even earned Dern a Best Supporting Actress nomination from the Academy! But, TBH, the only thing that we should be talking about right now is her obsession with Baby Yoda and why the lil nug needs to be the one to present her with her trophy if she wins.

Like the rest of us, Laura was introduced to Baby Yoda late last year when everyone on the internet couldn't stop talking about the adorable Mandalorian character. When Variety asked her what she thought about the Baby Yoda craze, Laura, interestingly, was like, "I saw him—I don’t know, but I think he was at a basketball game." She then added, "It was NBA," which I guess was supposed to somehow make it make sense?

As Vulture pointed out, Laura might have thought the reporter asked her about someone with a similar name, like DaBaby or Lil Baby, but we may never know.

A day after Laura stumped the world, she provided a much-needed update on Instagram. She cryptically posted a picture of NBA star and Clippers player Paul George and wrote, "Paul George! You know the truth about it all. Thank God.” If you look closely, you can see bb on the sideline.

And the next day, an ESPN reporter tweeted that they spoke with Laura at a basketball game and she stuck to her original story.

Fast forward to January and Laura goes on Stephen Colbert's show to talk about her blossoming relationship with Baby Yoda and how they're now romantically linked. Before you judge, it's okay because the alien is not an actual baby! They're just baby-like and still fully in middle age! Here's Laura gushing about her green companion:

"I’m just gonna say this, because we’ve been in this business a long time now. There can be a frenzy when people are friends, or have some kind of relationship, and people wanna wonder, you know? Project their own opinions. As a baby, he’s a 50-year-old baby. It’s not inappropriate. I said to my friends, the next man I’m going to be with, I want him to be incredibly wise, great sense of humor. I don’t mind being the taller one. I didn’t mention green, but somehow. You never know what you’re gonna get. Oh my God, those eyes. I can’t tell you. When you say, ‘I want you to look into my eyes forever,’ he’s definitely going to be doing that.”

I swear if Baby Yoda and Laura don't have a moment tonight, the Academy will be hearing from my lawyers.
