Solar eclipse sand sculpture built at Sugar Sand Festival in Clearwater Beach

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — As the upcoming solar eclipse approaches on Monday afternoon, one Pinellas County community is celebrating the event— Florida-style.

On Sunday, a massive sand sculpture was built at the Sugar Sand Festival at Pier 60, located at 1 Causeway Boulevard in Clearwater Beach.

The sand art is of a giant sun, wearing its safety solar eclipse glasses, with “Solar Eclipse 2024” carved out on the right side.

According to their website, the 10th annual festival features 16 professional sand sculptors from around the world, transforming sugar sand into breathtaking art pieces.

The festival also offers free sculpting classes, live music, fireworks, food vendors, and fun activities for the whole family.

In case you missed Sunday’s activities, there will be a viewing party on Monday at Pier 60 for the solar event.

The festival, with a theme of “Sands of Times” is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until Sunday, April 14.
