Sol De Janeiro's New Body Butter Is Like a Beach Vacation for Your Skin

Meet Delícia Drench.

Sol De Janeiro

It's officially winter. Do you know where your skin's hydration level is? If you're anything like me, it's... pretty high! I would even say impressive. If you asked me the same question a few weeks ago, the outlook wouldn't have been as positive but, as you'll soon see, I've discovered a new secret to optimal cold-weather moisture.

Since 2015, Sol de Janeiro has specialized in creating products that make you feel like you're on holiday in Brazil. With their super sweet scents and silky textures (they're the geniuses behind Bum Bum Cream!, the brand's range of body products make you feel fresh, glowy, and ultra-moisturized. Now, they've (literally) whipped up a brand new product to help ease our winter woes: Delícia Drench Body Butter ($48), which launches December 21.

Read on to discover everything about the brand's latest launch, and my honest review.

The Inspiration

According to the brand, Delícia Drench was designed to be unlike anything they've released before: "a revolution for both the body and mind." When lined up with the rest of their body creams it comes out on top in moisture intensity.

While cream moisturizers and body oils only get one or the other, body butters feature both a thick texture and an oil-based formula—making them the best of both worlds when it comes to dry skin savior-hood. That's the ticket with this product, which penetrates deep below the skin's surface to lock in moisture.

The butter's all-new Cheirosa 59 fragrance (which—surprise!—will also be released as a perfume mist in 2024) features notes of vanilla orchid, sugared violet, and sheer sandalwood. To quote the brand's perfumer, Jerome Espinette, the woody gourmand "captures the emotion of winding down after a perfect beach day"—exactly what I want in the bleak midwinter.

"Evocative notes are elevated with exquisite florals, while juicy plum brings a bold, creamy touch," Espinette adds.

The Formula

Whipped and ultra-rich in texture, Delícia Drench features bacuri butter, which locks in moisture and replenishes the skin's barrier by restoring essential fatty and amino acids. (Also known as platonia, the Brazilian fruit features high levels of phosphorus, iron, and vitamin C.) Other key ingredients include hyaluronic acid for both fast-acting and long-lasting hydration, prebiotic hibiscus to nourish the microbiome, and a Brazilian Soothing Complex, which utilizes a blend of copaiba resin and passionflower seed oil to calm stressed skin.

In a clinical study on the product, 99% of people said Delícia Drench revitalized their dry and lackluster skin after four weeks of use. They also agreed their dry or flaky skin looked nourished and felt soothed, and that it restored a feeling of suppleness to the skin.

My Review

While I didn't have weeks to test Delícia Drench, just one application sold me—and I'm pretty happy with that outlook when it comes to a body moisturizer. After a week of daily use, my legs and elbows feel just as happy as if I was on, well, a relaxing holiday in Rio... as opposed to basking in the most wonderful/stressful time of year in below-freezing Minnesota.

Sol de Janeiro Delícia Drench Body Butter ($48)

Like all of Sol de Janeiro's products, the scent is intense. Still, it smells nice and dissipates quickly, not at all overwhelming by the time my routine is complete. With that being said, my favorite part of the product is absolutely the texture. Unlike body butters that feel so oily, this one was a treat to apply, soaking into my skin beautifully and leaving it soft with no residue.
