Sofia Wylie is returning to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series for its fourth (and final) season, and she sat down with Seventeen to spill the details on Gina Porter’s costumes — as well as how her own style evolution has led her to quit fast fashion this fall with some help from thredUP.

“I grew up going to thrift stores — that’s how it started. I’d take pieces that didn’t necessarily fit and make them into what I wanted them to be,” Sofia explained. “I was able to express myself by finding things that were unique that no one else had.”

“Now as I’ve gotten older, my style has circled back to how I dressed when I was a little kid,” the actress continued. “I want things to be vibrant and fun. It feels like I’m healing my inner child as I get to wear what I was trying to execute as a five-year-old. The funkier the better.”

As a lifelong thrifter, Sofia is partnering with thredUP for the launch of their online back-to-school thrift shop, Get Ready With Us: Back-to-School Edition. Fans will be able to shop thousands of secondhand styles similar to Sofia’s personal thrift picks, while joining her in her pledge to quit fast fashion this fall. “Thrifting has always been a part of my life so I’m excited to be partnering with thredUP because I’ve always genuinely enjoyed secondhand fashion,” said Sophia.

“I’m actually wearing one of the best things I’ve ever thrifted right now,” The School of Good and Evil actress told Seventeen. “They’re these bootcut jeans that are low-waisted, which is my favorite cut right now. I got them a couple weeks ago and I’ve worn them almost every day.”

And just as Sofia’s personal style has changed over the past four years of filming with the HSMTMTS crew, Gina’s costumes have evolved with each season of the show. “I’ve been very lucky to have a big say in what I want Gina to be wearing so that it aligns with her character arc,” Sofia shared. “We gave Gina more of a put-together vibe in Season 1. Then it got really sporty in Season 2 with all of her tracksuits and dance outfits, and then her style evolved into this sweet, flowy, pink and pastel vibe for Season 3 with lots of little summer dresses.”

The show might be ending soon ( 😢) but you can rest assured that Gina will live on in Sofia’s closet. “At the end of filming, I took a lot of Gina’s clothes from the past four seasons with me," the actress admitted. "Some are in storage for nostalgia purposes but others I’ve been able to wear in my daily life, like I have a bunch of Supergas from Gina’s closet that I’m obsessed with. I told the wardrobe department I loved Supergas and they bought a bajillion different pairs for me to wear during Season 3."

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 4 will be premiering on August 9, 2023 on Disney+.
