Sofia Vergara Looks Completely Unrecognizable in the First Trailer for Griselda

If you weren't excited for Griselda before, you're definitely going to be excited once you see the official trailer.

The series, which will be streaming on Netflix, stars Sofia Vergara as Griselda Blanco, the powerful queenpin of Miami's cocaine trade in the 1970s and ’80s.

“She didn't walk like a girlfriend,” one character says in Spanish at the end of the trailer, saying Blanco walked like “a boss.” In the role, Vergara is about as far removed from her kooky but lovable Modern Family character as it is possible to get.

Now that the trailer has dropped, here is everything we know about the upcoming show.

Is it based on a true story?

According to Netflix, the series was “inspired” by the real Griselda Blanco, who ruled Miami's underworld with a notoriously iron fist. According to Vice, Blanco was responsible for the murders of hundreds of people, including her three husbands, and amassed a vast fortune as one of the most successful drug lords in history.

How faithful the Netflix series stays to the true events remains to be seen.

“Griselda is a rise-and-fall story like none we have ever seen before,” series creator Eric Newman told Netflix. “It’s thrilling, emotional, funny, scary, and tragic. Griselda is an antihero of the highest order and a series of contradictions at odds with herself.”

Who else is in the cast?

Sofia Vergara is by far the biggest name for American audiences, but you may also recognize Narcos star Alberto Guerra. Pop fans will also be excited to learn star Karol G is making her acting debut as one of Griselda's most trusted lieutenants, per TV Insider.

How many episodes are there?

The limited series unfolds over six episodes.

When does it premiere?

Griselda will be available for streaming on Netflix starting January 25, 2024.
