It's hard to believe that anyone would have anything negative to say about superstar Sofia Vergara, but during a recent appearance on the Spanish-language talk show El Hormiguero with host Pablo Motos, she had to endure some lighthearted ribbing from him, but she clapped back in the best way. During their chat, the host made fun of Vergara's accent, asking, "How do you say modern family?" with a heavy exaggeration of Vergara's distinct Colombian delivery.

Vergara responded, "I say it wrong? Oh, because you speak better English than me? Ah."

She didn't stop there, adding, "How many Emmy nominations do you have in the United States? How many times did they nominate you at the Golden Globes?" Let the record show that Vergara has four Emmy nominations and four Globe noms, too, thanks to her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on ABC's beloved sitcom Modern Family. Previously, Vergara spoke about trying to change her accent and has even been accused of faking it.

She revealed to Harry Connick Jr. that she spent "so much money" on speech lessons. She said, "I spent so much money when I decided I was going to act. I'm like, 'I'm moving to Los Angeles, I'm gonna hire the best speech coach. I can't understand why Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz can't learn how to speak perfectly. I'm gonna do it!’"

Vergara added that she'd practice with her son, Manolo, saying, "He would run lines with me. And he'd say, ‘Mom, I just corrected you, like, two seconds ago and you said the word again wrong.'"

Eventually, she accepted that she sounded a certain way and embraced it. She told WWD, “When I would go to auditions I would get super self-conscious of what I was saying, and I couldn’t concentrate on the acting. I was just concentrating on the pronunciation. One day I said, ‘This accent is never going to change … I’m going to keep trying the way I am and, if it doesn’t work, I’ll go back to the Latin market.’”

Vergara was on El Hormiguero to promote her new Netfix show, Griselda. She'll portray Griselda Blanco, known as the Cocaine Godmother. She told Entertainment Tonight that the series would show audiences that Blanco is "a complex person."

"There are so many nuances to explore in terms of who she was as a drug lord and, of course, as a woman, as a mother," Vergara said. "She was someone who did whatever it took to protect her family. I really wanted to explore that from the point of view of, you know, of her being one of the only women in history to have gone as far as she did."

Griselda will be available to stream on Netflix starting Jan. 25.
