As we still mourn the end of Modern Family, our love for the show's stars go on. Sofia Vergara's character, Gloria, was one of the best parts of the comedy series–and it turned her into a global superstar. Now, she's busy judging America's Got Talent, designing her own fashion line, Sofia Jeans, and posting glimpses of her glamorous life to over 20 million followers on Instagram. Judging by her slew of selfies, it's no surprise the 48-year-old actress is a self-professed beauty junkie. As she admitted to New Beauty in 2014, "I have a closet full of products and I use them all."

She also revealed her biggest piece of skincare advice: "I believe, more than fixing anything, in preventing. Once you get the wrinkle, once you get the sagging neck, that's it. There's no cream that is going to fix you. So, prevention, prevention, prevention!"

Keep on reading for the best of her beauty tips.

She prioritizes calming products for her sensitive skin.

Sofia claims she developed rosacea in adulthood because of constantly being under high-heat lamps on TV sets. "I've been struggling with that for six or seven years," she told Who What Wear in 2019. "It's hard because I get really red, so I've realized that I've had to treat my skin like sensitive skin, where I didn't before. I can't really wear rich moisturizers or rich oils. Now I have to keep it simple." While she used to be a product junkie who tried "masks and scrubs and rubs," now she relies on a Cetaphil cleanser and gentle eye makeup remover. "The basic stuff works best for me. I basically use anything calming. Nothing sexy," Sofia said. Also sensitive skin-friendly? A serum from Luzern Laboratories.

She swears by sun protection–and always wearing a hat.

The actress has always been vocal about how sunscreen is the most preventative, anti-aging product you can use. "In my 20s, I started to use sunblock on my face," she told People in 2016. "I wish I had put it on my chest too." She likes sunblock from La-Roche Posay, which she told Health "is great for sensitive skin. It’s my go-to." According to her Who What Wear interview, she is also a fan of Supergoop! as well as La Mer's sunblock.

When she is outdoors, she also makes sure to wear a hat to cover her face. "I have a little house in the Bahamas and I have a fucking crazy collection of hats so everyone can have one," she said. "There must be 25 hats in the bucket, and I always go for the same one: a visor. An old lady visor."

She gets her glow from products, not UV rays.

According to her longtime dermatologist Dendy Engelman, MD, "Sofia loves self-tanner" which means "she isn’t exposing her beautiful skin to damaging rays." Dr. Engelman told New Beauty, "Her favorite self-tanner is Vita Liberata Mousse. Once dried, she finishes with Moroccanoil Instant Radiance Shimmering Body Oil for a warm, bronzed glow.”

She loves incorporating oils into her skincare routine.

"After I wash at night, I’ve been using a calendula oil—it’s good for sensitive skin and has really been calming my skin. It’s really oily and nice, so I put it everywhere," she told Health in 2018. She also revealed to Us in 2017 that, when her husband isn't home, she sleeps in saran wrap "and [applies] coconut oil everywhere."

She pays attention to her diet for clear skin.

"I eat a lot of vegetables, and I eat blueberries, and I drink green tea," she told Health. "I add a spoon of powdered collagen to chamomile tea at night—I don’t know what that does but I do it! And I try to drink lots of water." She called hydration "the most important part of any beauty routine," and suggested drinking sparkling water, too, to mix things up.

She uses topical treatments sparingly.

"I do the retinol thing that everybody does, but I have to do it in moderation," Sofia told Health. "And I do Vitamin C, also in moderation."

She's tried laser treatments.

One month before her wedding with Joe Manganiello in 2015, she was treated with Intense pulsed Light (IPL) on her face and chest "to target any areas of redness or hyperpigmentation," Dr. Engelman told New Beauty.

She also does skincare for her body.

"I still try [lots of different products] on my neck and my chest," she told Health. Meanwhile, Dr Engelman shared some of her products in rotation: Nereium [now called Neora] Firming Body Contour Cream "to use on her arms and décolleté to help her skin look firm and her arms look contoured" and Nugene Universal Serum "to use on her face and chest to target fine lines and wrinkles and give her skin luminosity."

She enhances her natural beauty with makeup.

"I don't really like going out without lipstick, or some blush, or mascara, I don't even think about it. It's like brushing my teeth," Sofia told New Beauty. As for which mascara, she told Who What Wear, "I love waterproof mascara in the summer, which always looks sharper in the heat. I use Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara." She also got a tip from a makeup artist that she should stick to colors she knows work for her and don't experiment too much. She told Health,"For 40 years, I've been doing the same makeup! I have warm skin, so I look good with browns, and golds, and bronze; I don’t look good with grays or pinks."

But, she always remembers to end the day with a clean face.

"I take my makeup off every night with a sponge—like a little soft, nonabrasive sea sponge that I change once a week—and then I use a mild soap," she said. "I'm very religious about taking my makeup off every night."
