Emi Jay

If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Who am I without my giant hair clip?” you might have Emi Jay to thank for the existential crisis. Founded by Julianne Goldmark (who once used hair accessories to escape the blandness of school uniform life), the It Girl-loved brand originated the dent-less knotted hair tie in 2009, going on to expand its empire with brushes, barrettes of all sorts, and their signature “Big Effing Clip”($34). Today, you can get Emi Jay hair accessories in the shape of bows, shells, hearts, or even flowers, the likeness of which could *maybe* make Caroline Calloway give up her fresh orchid blooms.

Having spent the last 10+ years supplying the coolest among us with hair accessories, it only makes sense that Emi Jay has decided to foray into styling products. First on the agenda? Angelstick Hair Smoothing Balm ($38), a pretty-in-pink wax stick made to smooth out your favorite hairdo.

While I suppose it's not true that everyone has consistent hair accessory-based heartache, it is true that everyone has a flyaway once in a while. If they don’t, they just figured out a way to hide them—or, like the likes of Hailey Bieber, slicked-back bun queen Sofia Richie, and Matilda Djerf, were on Emi Jay’s early PR list. Now, you can join their ranks.

The Inspiration

Made to make styling easy, Emi Jay envisions their fab clientele throwing Angelstick in their bag so they can touch up their hair on the go.

After two years in the making, I am so excited to share that we’re finally launching our very first styling product,” says Goldmark. “When you’re running out the door to work or heading for drinks with friends, I hope this will make your hair routine just a bit dreamier!”

The Formula

Angelstick was formulated to be majorly buttery and hydrating—the perfect extension of the ultra-rich, pearlescent wonderland the brand already calls to mind—while maintaining a strong, sleek hold. Like their accessories, it’s suitable for all hair types and textures.

Key ingredients include castor seed oil (to support, smooth, and protect follicles from damage), sunflower seed wax (for easy absorption), candelilla wax (to condition, soften, and provide a strong hold), murumuru butter (to hydrate and soothe the scalp with a load of hair-loving fatty acids), and vitamin E (to moisturize and protect hair from free radicals).

Vegan and cruelty-free, the product was also created without mineral oil, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrance, parabens, sulfates, silicones, and phthalates. It was made to be soft and non-crunchy, and thanks to the abundance of oils, be actually good for your hair instead of traditional wax sticks.

How to Use It

Designed to target flyaways and loose strands anytime you need it, you can use your fingertips to gently smooth a small amount of Angelstick onto dry or damp hair. If you don’t want to get your fingers involved, simply glide the product on straight from the tube. Of course, it pairs perfectly with the brand's clips for a sleek updo moment, or can be used to define curls if you're wearing your hair down.

And why stop there? You can also use it on your brows, shaping with your fingertips or a spoolie. Heaven sent, indeed.
