Sofia Richie on Her Big 'Surprise' 21st Birthday Party at Wynn Las Vegas

For Sofia Richie, turning 21 last night at Wynn Las Vegas was not just an occasion; it was the occasion she had been excited about for a long time. "I’ve been thinking about my 21st birthday for years," she told ELLE.com ahead of her party. "It’s a birthday I think we all look forward too. What better place to spend it than Las Vegas with all my closest friends?"

Sofia, Lionel Richie's daughter, spent the full day at the Wynn with her boyfriend Scott Disick and her friends including Kylie Jenner, Anastasia Karanikolaou, Victoria Villarroel, and more. Sofia called it her "favorite place to stay in Las Vegas, so the location was a no brainer for me."

Sofia actually let other people take care of planning her day. "Most of my birthday festivities are a surprise, but all I really asked for was an energetic room, and comfortable environment for us to have fun," she said.

What came of that? Richie's day started with a personalized breakfast and her getting a new car—an Aston Martin—from Disick. She documented it on her Instagram:

Her afternoon was spent at Wynn's Encore Beach Club. Sofia wore pink outfits all day:

At the pool, Sofia wore a vintage Chanel bikini from Treasures of New York City. At that party, she was particularly excited about the custom pillows with her dog Hershela's face printed on it. There were also enlarged life-size cut-outs of her and cupcakes that spelled out "Happy Birthday Sofia." Her dog's face was on the cupcakes, too. The group got to dance to DJ Alesso's hits during the afternoon.

Sofia knew ahead of the party that she'd have multiple outfit changes for all the events. "When I was talking about my outfits with my stylist, Jill Jacobs, we both knew we were going big," she said. "I have a few outfit changes through out the day, from the plane, to the pool, and than to the night club. Each outfit is fun and sexy. Jill and I are a great team because we are always on the same page about the vibe. I knew together we were going to make these outfits super special."

Sofia didn't decide her hair and makeup until day of. "For glam, we have a few inspo pictures but most likely won’t figure it out until I sit in the chair," she said.

Sofia's night ended with dinner and then a party at XS Nightclub. Sofia wore a Yousef Aljasmi pink sequin bodysuit with EGO high heels for the occasion. Kylie joined her and her friends at dinner at Wynn Plaza's Cipriani Las Vegas. The group had family-style courses and a champagne birthday toast with Perrier-Jouët.

From there, Sofia and her group moved to the nightclub. Wynn surprised her with a six-tiered, multi-flavor cake that they created.

Sofia spent her night listening to (and meeting) the evening's performers, The Chainsmokers. (Kylie joined later in a pink latex dress.) The girls sang and danced to the group's set. At one point, The Chainsmoker boys and entire venue serenaded Sofia by singing happy birthday to her.

In the next year, Sofia told ELLE.com that she wants to challenge herself. "I want to try new things in my career that I usually wouldn’t do," she said. "We definitely have some exciting things in the work for next year, and I can’t wait to share."

In the meantime, Sofia said the biggest lesson she's trying to live by is to just enjoy the present. "At 21, I am enjoying every moment of life, in the moment. Life is moving so fast, and I never want to look back and think I wish I could of taken those moments in."
